Military Spouses Profiles

A-J

This site is under construction and work is ongoing.  I hope you'll stop by again as there are always changes.

Note:  While profiles for some of these special ladies is relatively short, that is due to my not knowing their current whereabouts.  It is hoped that through this web site they will reconnect with me so I can update their profile - as well as have a good chat!  Dianne

Mari Brown

Mari is a native of Helsinki, Finland.  Her interest in illustrating started in high school and her first work was printed when she was 17.  Soon after, she says art took over her life.  After high school, Mari worked as an art teacher's assistant then spent two years studying Fine Art in Stockholm.  On completion of her schooling she moved to Canada in 1987 where she studied Interior Design.  Mari's cartooning began six years ago and her work has appeared in the Oromocto Gazette, Pembroke Observer, the DND publication, The Maple Leaf and The Military Rose magazine.  Her illustrations have also appeared in various MFRC newsletters.

Mari graduated from Algonquin college in 2002 as a Interior Decorator, and has since then started her own business.  Her  business  focuses on interior decorating for healthy homes, she decorates for clients who suffer from Allergies, Asthma and of MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivity) and for clients who wish to live in a healthy home environment.  Along with her decorating business, she continues her work with illustrating and painting.

She says her greatest inspiration for her work is her family, her two young children and her husband who serves in Canadian military.

Amy Coxworth

Amy was born in Victoria, B.C.  However, she has lived in several places in Canada as her father was in the Navy.  Drawing has always been a strong part of her life since she was very young.  Comfortable doing cartoon strips or individual illustrations, Amy also did lighting and set design for the Blacklight Theatre Company in Aldergrove, B.C. for it's high school productions.

Taking advantage of all the art courses offered in high school, Amy also learned to wield an oxy-acetylene torch with ease.  Married to her high school sweetheart, Aaron Coxworth, a Corporal in the 1st Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment, Amy, Aaron and their three children, Jacob, Isaak and Isobel currently reside in Deep River, ON.

Julie  Doherty

Digby, Nova Scotia is where Julie was born although she has lived all over Canada as her father was a member of the Canadian Forces.  In the 1970's Julie sang with various rock and roll and country bands.  After her marriage to a serviceman and during his UN Peacekeeping Tour, Julie decided that she needed to do her part in helping others.  With support from the local media she went on a seven-day hunger strike to raise awareness and money for the starving people of Somalia and Ethiopia.  Operation Valentine was a successful effort with funds being donated to the International Red Cross.  Julie has been writing poetry and stories for as long as she can remember.  Her work has appeared in the book Hurry Up and Wait as well as on the web site Salute to Supporters.  A columnist, Julie wrote a column called "My Two Cents" while working for a newspaper in Nova Scotia.  She is currently working on a book called "Six Months" based on the letters written between her and her husband while he was on a UN tour of Namibia.  Julie is married to MWO Steve Doherty and together with their two sons Paul and Matt, they currently reside in London, ON.

Wendy Golding

Wendy who hails from Woodstock, New Brunswick started writing poetry in 1998-99.  As her husband prepared for a six month tour of Bosnia, Wendy put pen to paper and started recording her thoughts in poetic form.  Just learning how to use email days before her husband's departure, Wendy taught herself enough about the computer word processing system to write and produce her own book of poems in 1999 called Through The Eyes of a Military Wife - Poems From The Heart.   Wendy continued her poetic endeavors - some of which were published in The Military Rose magazine.  Wendy, her husband Clay and children Ben and Amy reside in Petawawa.

Lynn Hall

Toronto born, I currently reside in Frankford, Ontario, with my sweetie, Don, as we are posted in Trenton.  Having written since the time I was a very small child, I have actually been fortunate in having several cards printed by Blue Mountain Arts.  I’ve also had one of my pieces included in Dr. Wayne Dyer’s latest book, ‘The Power of Intention.’  And while ‘new beginnings big & small—inspirations to help light the way’ is my first book, I’m pleased to say that my second one, ‘these shared passages—a celebration of friendship’s light’ is fast on its heels!
