6th Annual Renfrew County Natural History Day

An event to celebrate nature and explore Renfrew County's natural history through Show-and-Tell displays, talks by expert guest speakers, a fun children's program, and guided local field trips.

8:30 Check-in, get comfortable and view displays
9:00 Welcome - Introductory remarks by Master of Ceremonies, Mark Stabb
9:05 Dragonflies and Damselflies (Colin Jones, NHIC/MNR) 35min
9:40 Blanding's Turtle (Chris Edge, Algonquin Park) 35min
10:15 Break for Refreshments [at this time a children's program will move outside, and allow children a chance to explore nature with expert adult leadership]

10:30 Loggerhead Shrike (Jessica Steiner, Wildlife Preservation Canada) 40 min
11:10 Kirtland's Warbler (Dr. Paul Aird, University of Toronto) 40min
11:50 MNR's Species at Risk & Local Natural History Update (MNR Pembroke) 20min
12:10 Lunch and Networking 60 min
A chance to meet with old friends and make new friends over the lunch hour. Also an opportunity to view the displays in the Davenport Centre.

1:10 Field Trips - The trips include:
* walks in Bonnechere Provincial Park and area with expert interpreters to experience and discover the marvels of flora and fauna
* a driving tour of the Upper Bonnechere River area to points of interest using a handout flyer as your guide;

Adjourn at the end of field trips - Bon voyage and safe driving!

Renfrew County Natural History Day is organized in partnership by Macnamara Field Naturalists' Club, Pembroke Area Field Naturalists, Renfrew County Stewardship Council, Friends of Bonnechere Provincial Park, Ontario Parks, and Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources-Pembroke District.
