Home
By Julie Doherty
I joined the Forces with you
Even though we hadn’t met
The Good Lord put me here for you
He said, “You’re his best bet"
You went away, you came back
And sometimes you stayed a while
But often you took me with you
Over many a hundred mile
I planted one foot firmly
The other I let it roam
We had the kids – I clung to them
As we moved from home to home
The children grew, they never knew
How special they were to us
We changed their schools, they left their friends
And hardly made a fuss.
Now that we’re getting older
We’ll soon be settling down
We’re just not sure where that will be
Because Canada’s our home town
