My Military Rose

 by Dianne Collier

She traveled a path that was long and varied

As she followed along with the man she had married

Leaving all that was familiar and loved behind

Little did she know her life was a goldmine

For now that she’d become a military wife

She’d experience much in this challenging life

From moving to crying to laughter some more

As her adventure began with the man she adored

He didn’t promise her fame, riches or jewels

But a life filled with challenges and many rules

For the life of a military wife is such

She didn’t realize that she’d be alone so much

For saying good-bye was top on the list

She must learn how to say it amid the pure bliss

Of loving the man who had captured her heart

All the while making another new start

At living without him time after time

As he continually traveled and put his life on the line

With worry and apprehension she went through the motions

She dutifully carried on with love and devotion

What other lifestyle could offer a wife

The chance to mold and shape her own life

In a way that would definitely parallel no other

And offer her challenges as a wife and a mother

With love in her eyes as she looked up at him

He gently placed his hand under her chin

“Don’t cry honey, though we’ll be miles apart

You’ll always be close – right here in my heart

You’re my wife and I love you and I’m so very proud

Wherever I travel I’ll see your face in the crowd

You’ll always be with me through thick and thin

So dry your tears and draw strength from within

Absence will only make our love stronger

For we are soul mates now and forever

And no matter where my adventure goes

I’ll always love my Military Rose
