One Small Thing

 BJ Nelson 2007

If I could just ask one small thing

Of all of you this day

Please take a minute of your time

And bow your heads and pray.

For all our sons and daughters too

In foreign lands and seas

Ask God to watch and keep them safe

And tend to all their needs.

If they stayed here and didn’t go

And fight the terrorists there,

Before too long  the sea would be crossed

And the war would be fought right here.

You may not believe that we have a right

In a place so far away.

We have to stop that way of life

So our children can grow and play.

Our troops believe with all their hearts

That they can make a change

And stop the useless loss of life

That doesn’t seem so strange.

We are so very fortunate

Our country is so grand

We have great pride and freedom

All across our land.

Every single day and night

A mother sheds a tear

A fathers sits and clasps his hands

Both of their hearts hold fear.

All those soldiers across the sea

Have families here at home

They may have left us all behind

But they are not there alone.

They take a bit of each of us

Parent. child, spouse or friend.

With them as they do their job

Our country to defend.

So if could ask just one small thing,

Please take a minute from your day,

Remember those who protect us all

And bow your heads and pray.
