The Symbols of Love
by Dianne Collier
Tears fell like rain from the sky
On the day you said goodbye
One more time to be alone
When I really wish you were home
The roses you gave to express your
love
Somehow remind me of the peaceful
dove
Tears are shed when both I see
Always in my mind’s memory
As the teardrops fall onto the rose
It’s beauty seems to magically
unfold
No other flower can ever compare
With the red roses that accept
my tears
The roses are saying, I am only
a symbol
Of the love that we both share
The dove of peace is also a symbol
Of the reason why you can’t be
here
Duty takes you away from me
But I know here is where you’d
rather be
So until you’re in my arms again
I’ll keep you safely in my heart
and then
Tears of joy will soon appear
As the rosebuds washed by my tears
Suddenly come into full bloom
The moment you walk into the room.
