Through the Window
by Audrey LeBlanc
As Mom watches out the window
I wonder what she sees
Sometimes she watches smiling
Like she sees Dad’s face
Through the glass
I get up quickly and rush
To the back door
Thinking his tour is over at last
But he’s not there
And Mom quickly looks away…
Sometimes I catch her
When she thinks we
Are all watching T.V.
She gazing out that window
Her eyes look sad and far away
I look through the glass
She just smiles at me
I just see outside
I don’t see what she sees
I think she is looking at memories
I squeeze her hand gently
She brushes a stray tear away
From her cheek and
She pulls her gaze
Away from the window
Until next time...
